Athletic Snap up “Buisty”
Alloa Athletic have just secured the services of Oakley’s star defender Scot Buist, in a deal that can only be described as the “Junior” bargain of the century.
A number of senior clubs have watched the accomplished right back but it was Alloa that showed the belief in the player who follows in the steps of Player Manager Willie Newbigging who is still regarded as somewhat of a legend in Alloa after captaining the side for a number of years.
Scot signed for Oakley from Camelon where he wasn’t even getting a game and has in his short time with the O’s won not only numerous trophies but the admiration of all of those involved with Oakley United Football Club.
Already Scot has won …
Fife League Champions 05/06, ACA League Cup Winners 05/06, Kingdom Kegs Winners 04/05 and 06/07. |

There are a few new faces at Blairwood Park this season, namely Richard Workman and Stephen Stewart a central Defender & Keeper respectively.
 |
 |
| Richard Workman |
Stephen Stewart |
Richard
has joined us after moving into the area from Ireland. He is a solid tackling no messing type who will add bite to the back four.
Stephen
has joined us from Falkirk and has already proved in the early ACA League Cup Qualifiers that he is a worthy understudy to Greig Maitland.
Leaving the Club are Kevin Smith (Keeper ) who has joined Steelend Vics, Stuart Malcolm (Full Back) and long serving Scott Johnston who has decided to call it a day and retire. |

Kelty keeper signs for O’s
Saturday’s Scottish Cup Tie saw the Introduction on the bench of our latest acquisition. Martin Parkyn a keeper of some renown has joined the O’s from local rivals Kelty Hearts despite interest from another of our rivals Rosyth Rec’.
Martin states that the main reason for picking Oakley was the fact that he would be working with and learning from Oakley legend… Brian “Potts” Potter.
Player/Manager Willie Newbigging says “Bringing someone of Martin’s calibre means that there will now be a “healthy” competition for the Number One shirt as there is for most other positions within the club “ he added “This puts pressure on all three keepers to perform week in week out both in training and on match day” |

Want
Morrison Kicks Off with a Hat-trick - Today was going to be Craig “Mori” Morrison’s day as his confidence going into this season is at an all time high especially after his performance in midweek in Oakley’s 2-1 win over Sauchie, where Mori scored direct from a free kick with a rasper into the top corner... |

ACA League Cup Triumph
Oakley United take the ACA League Cup at the first time of asking . In a One sided final Oakley finally won the Cup after a thrilling penalty shoot out. |
It was only Oakley’s poor finishing and a momentary lapse in the defences concentration that took the game to pens. Oakley had 75-80% of the pressure but the Kelty keeper was in great form an denied Ewing , Morrison, Rushford and Smart on numerous occasions until Russell Smart finished off a sweeping move from right to left to give the O’s the lead.
Kelty to their credit didn’t give up and got their reward when a free kick floated into the box was headed in to tie it 1-1 when nobody picked up the on running striker.
Poor refereeing denied Oakley the Cup in normal time when Ewing was dragged down with only seconds to go.
Things looked Black in the shoot out for the O’s when they missed their first two penalties but then “hero” of the day Greig Maitland stepped up and save THREE penalties in a row to enable Craig Morrison to slot home the winner. |

NEW Pavilion
Oakley United are currently looking for funding to build a new pavilion hopefully in time for their return to the Super League East Region.

Plans have been produced giving us three changing rooms ( Two Teams + Referee etc ) all with separate showers ,a boardroom ,Managers room and both able and disabled toilet facilities.
A number of events are being planned to help raise funds including another Golf day ,Prize Bingo and a potential Race Night in the miners Welfare.
A new roof to the existing changing rooms has had a devastating effect on the clubs Pavilion funds but it was a necessary evil, especially given the recent amounts of snow and rain that we've had.
The Pavilion project has not yet been given a name but favourite at the moment is the “Bobby Weldon Pavilion” in honour of our friend Mr Oakley United himself.
This will be a regular feature in the NEWS section until complete so please keep up with developments on the website or better still pop in one Saturday to see how its going. |

Oakley United Triumph
Oakley United took their new look side to the Blackburn United two day Pre-season tournament and come out on top.

Oakley Results / Scorers...
| Semi 4-1 Forth Wanderers |
|
Ewing, Baird, Lister, Rushford |
| Final 3-1 Blackburn United |
|
Lister (2), Smart |
|
In this four team competition Oakley fielded no fewer than FIVE new signings... Goalkeeper Greig Maitland, Stuart Malcolm, David Murray, William “Jacko” Baird, and Lee Morrison added to by a cameo appearance from Dundee United and Motherwell legend (and Oakley’s Asst’ Manager) Derek Murray.
Oakley drew Forth Wanderers in the first game and proceeded to dominate, scoring four and narrowly missing many more. John Rushford scoring the pick of the bunch and only a Scott Johnston slip late on allowed Forth a consolation goal for their afternoons efforts.
Blackburn United on the Sunday proved far harder opposition and lead 1-0 at half time thanks mainly to Oakley’s Non appearance as a footballing force. The second half saw normal service resumed and two Jimmy Lister strikes and a late Russell Smart (Left) effort finished it off.
Thanks goes to the Blackburn Committee for their hospitality and for the Invitation.

Karting Day Out
The now annual Oakley “Karting” day was as always when at Raceland Tranent a great day. Overall Winner on the day was Alan Williams, Cousin of our treasurer Roy.
 |
Several quests joined us including Davie Wilkins, our sponsor from Stella Artois and old boy Ali Beverige. Speeds of up to 70mph are commonplace with the boys collecting more than their fair share of tyres on their way round . It all proved too much however for “Mori” Craig Morrison ( bottom Left ) who had maybe one too many bacon buttys prior to the event... Mori didn’t as much throw the race as just throw up... this unexpected turn of events allowed brother Ross onto the front of the grid to win the “B” final.
Leading Oakley player in the Final was Player/Manager Willie Newbigging , so all the lads should get a game come the Saturday.
Fastest lap on the day was just sub 1 minute by Roy “Schumacher” Williams.
The Close Season Karting day is scheduled for: ...Date to follow |
